Mario Kilian Photography in front of a snowed tree, in the winter of germany

I…

Hi, I’m Mario, a wildlife and nature photographer with a lifelong love for the quiet beauty of the outdoors. Although I was born in Cologne, Germany, my story took its true shape far away from here. When I was four, my family moved to the Americas, and that journey opened my eyes to landscapes, cultures, and the sense of freedom that later became the foundation of my photography.

My path wasn’t always artistic.
I studied engineering, built a career, and formed a beautiful family. But behind all of that, photography was always calling me. For years, I used my camera mainly for advertising and commercial work, until nature slowly pulled me back, one bird, one sunrise, one quiet walk at a time. At the age of 50, I returned to Germany to start a new chapter.
Life hasn’t always been easy, but nature has been my anchor. Wildlife photography became more than a hobby; it became therapy, purpose, and a reminder that beauty still exists even in difficult seasons. Every morning spent waiting for a bird to appear, every failed attempt, every moment of stillness… taught me patience, resilience, and gratitude.

Today, I share my journey on YouTube, creating videos about wildlife photography, the challenges behind each shot, and the emotional side of being out there alone with a camera. My goal is to inspire others — especially those who start later in life — to pick up a camera, go outside, and rediscover the world with curiosity. Through my photos, I hope to show the extraordinary in the ordinary and to remind people that nature deserves our respect, protection, and admiration.

When I’m not in the field or editing videos, I’m spending time with my daughters, planning my next outing, or dreaming about the next bird I hope to photograph. If you love wildlife, photography, and the stories hidden in the natural world, I’d be honored to have you join me on this journey.
